Diane Gatewood Humphries, 73, of Spotsylvania County, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at her home.

Diane was a member and firefighter of Chancellor Volunteer Fire Department Company 5, and was the first female firefighter in Spotsylvania County. She was also a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary. She spent a majority of her life working in retail in her earlier years, and spent a number of years working as a caregiver and custodial supervisor at a local nursing home. Her last job was at the Club Demonstration Services (CDS) at Costco. But most importantly, she was a full-time wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She adored her dogs, enjoyed antiquing and thrifting with her friends, but above all, Diane loved spending time with her family. Some of her hobbies included crafting, cooking, shopping, and watching hummingbirds from her window. She devoted her life to helping others and lifting spirits. She never met a stranger in her life, and her genuine personality made any room she entered instantly light up.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, David; daughters Allison Woodard (Michael) and Laura Roberts (John); grandchildren Eric, Andrew, Georgia, and Emory; great-granddaughter Raylin; and sister, Linda Carter. Diane was preceded in death by her mother and father, Laura and Loyde Gatewood; and her brother, Clayton Gatewood.

A service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 11 at Covenant Funeral Service Fredericksburg at 4801 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens at 3207 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
