He was a proud World War II veteran of the Army Air Force serving his country and performing his duties in over 33 countries.
After the war, he married his sweetheart, Marnie, who was also a World War II veteran, whom he met while they were both stationed at Wright-Patterson Field in Dayton, OH. They settled in Houston, TX where he raised his family while working for Firestone Tire Company for over 26 years.
Opportunity came knocking in 1971, when he and Marnie moved to LA and opened a Tupperware Distributorship in Harvey, LA. Together, they owned and operated RayMar Sales, Inc. for almost 15 years, achieving many awards.
After retirement, Raymond enjoyed traveling and fishing! His love of travel took them to see all 50 states and Canada. He was known to his buddies as The Fish Master! He was always the first at the marina in the early morning to launch his boat, and the last to return before it closed. He always came home with a full ice chest! He came out of retirement again to work for Winn-Dixie as the oldest bag boy! His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids.
He was a long-time parishioner of St. Rosalie Church in Harvey and was a member of The Men’s Club. He was awarded the Order of the St. Louis Medallion for his work and devotion to the Catholic church and parish.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Marnie Lewis, son, Michael (Tanya), daughter, Kathleen Adams (Dale), four grandchildren - Jason Champagne (Jeni), Blake Adams (Candace), Katie Thorne (Matthew) and Renee Lewis (Erik); and nine great grandchildren, one sister, Mary Ann Vogel, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 11am to 1pm. A Funeral Mass will follow in the funeral home chapel. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park.
