Following the suspension of the transportation of British convicts in the 1840s, it was agreed that foreign workers could be brought to the Colony. An agent, Wilhelm Kirchner, visited Erbach and enrolled a number of locals to emigrate. In 1848 about 180 chose to make the journey. The group traveled to London and on 25 Nov 1848 embarked on the ship "Beulah". Heinrich and his family were allocated to the Walkers and were destined for the Walker property at Kameruka, NSW. They landed at Eden and walked to Kameruka behind a number of drays.
The Schubacks were the first German migrants to enter the Bega valley.
Heinrich and Barbara nee Recke were married on 6 Jul 1832 in Germany.
Heinrich and Barbara Schuback and their seven children ranging in age from 17 years to 9 months arrived in Port Jackson aboard the ship 'Beulah' on 4 April 1849. The details of their family according to the shipping records were as follows: Heinrich Schuback (39 years) vinedresser, Barbara (34 years) wife, Heinrich (17 years) vinedresser, Johann (14 years) vinedresser, Agnes (10 years) daughter, Sebastian (6 years) son, Franz (4 years) son, Catherina (3 years) daughter, Christina (infant). 7 (seven) more children joined the family between 1850 and 1858.
The old Bega Cemetery closed in 1905. All of the headstones were moved to the present Bega Cemetery location. The remains of the deceased were left at the Old Bega Cemetery and the High School was built over them.
If there was a headstone for the deceased the plot number is its location at the Bega Cemetery.
