On Friday, January 15, 2021, Erica H. Petty answered her calling from God to come home to continue her journey with Christ. On August 18, 1970, Erica was born to Rudolph Jr. and Valerie Mitchell Hockaday at Portsmouth General Hospital. Erica grew up in Cavalier Manor and graduated from I.C. Norcom High School in 1988. From there, Erica continued her education at Old Dominion University where she graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.

While attending ODU, Erica worked for the United States Postal Service, which is where she met the love of her life, Tracy J. Petty. Erica and Tracy joined unions on April 18, 1998 at Emanual AME Church in Portsmouth. Residing in Virginia Beach, VA Erica and Tracy expanded their union through the birth of their two beautiful children Jason James Petty (21) and Taylor Danielle Petty (14). Erica and Tracy exemplified their walk in Christ to their children through active membership and participation at Kempsville Church of God in Virginia Beach.

Erica’s bubbly personality and talkative nature allowed her to connect and build relationships with other people very easily. Erica has a host of friends, through relatives and from her career journey, including past employers, Cox Communications and Department of Navy Office of Civilian Human Resources (OCHR). Erica was currently employed as a Human Resource Specialist at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division located at the Dam Neck Activity in Virginia Beach.

Petty, father-in law John Petty (Woodbury, CT), two sisters-in-law Carmen Petty and Ramona Petty (TX), her best friend Vickie Hendrix (Andrew) and close special friends Sheila Tobias and Lavinia Teasley, as well as a host of loving relatives, including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
