Linda Wood Hingorani
Our precious and beloved “Mimi”, Mrs. Linda Wood Hingorani of Winchester, Virginia passed away Monday, December 18, 2017 at her home. She was 74 years old. The daughter of the late T. Clay and Winifred Swank Wood, Mrs. Hingorani was born in Washington, D.C. on July 10, 1943. She was raised on her family’s farm in Nokesville, Virginia and maintained devoted ties to her family and the farm throughout her lifetime. Nevertheless, her adventurous spirit led her to seek work and to live in several foreign countries, including Russia, (1973-76), France (1977-78), and Belgium (1981-1998). In Brussels, Mrs. Hingorani was an office administrator within the research center for the Mitre Corporation. In this capacity, she played a key role in meeting the objectives of the BICES team of NATO and won numerous awards for her service there. It was also in Brussels, that Mrs. Hingorani met and subsequently married the love of her life, Mr. Gopichand “Gope” D. Hingorani, on December 31, 1987. The ceremony took place in New Delhi, India. They enjoyed 25 years of marriage before Mr. Hingorani preceded her in death on October 30, 2012. Mrs. Hingorani loved her family dearly. She showed a lifetime of unconditional love and care for her children and grandchildren. Her generosity had no limits. Most importantly, she believed in her sons and taught them to believe in themselves, live with determination, and always persevere to pursue their dreams. She is survived by her three sons, W. Thomas Long (Paula), B. Keith Long (Catherine) and Kevin L. Long (Lynn); her grandchildren, Adam M. Long, Adia M. Long, Anna H. Long, Calvin C. Long, Daniel M. Long, Kristen N. Long Beicher (Benjamin), and Matthew J. Long as well as two great-grandchildren, James E. Beichler and Nathaniel O. Beichler. Through her marriage to Mr. Hingorani, she is survived by her step-daughters, Neila G. Hingorani and Sheila Hingorani Royston (Michael) and her grandchildren Samuel G. Royston and Spencer J. Royston. She is also survived by her sister, Dianne E. Wood and brother, Lanson C. Wood (Galinda).
Upon returning to the United States, Mrs. Hingorani pursued multiple interests, including the buying and selling antiques and participating in animal rescue. She was a true animal lover. She volunteered countless hours in animal rescue charities to secure loving homes for rescue animals. She especially enjoyed caring for her own cats, many of whom she herself adopted. In her later years, she added to her household two very special dogs (both Bedlington Terriers) which she affectionately called “the girls” or “her little lambs”, otherwise known as Tara and Mya. Mrs. Hingorani made friends wherever she went. It is a testimony to her character that she invested in and maintained for decades friendships which began overseas in the 1970s. She faithfully kept up with each friend as he or she moved to new countries around the globe. She often traveled with Mr. Hingorani to visit friends on many adventures throughout Europe, South Africa and the United States. Mrs. Hingorani was unique among women and rare among people at large, in her loving kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion, and generosity. She left a legacy wherever she focused her attention, whether it be in her wanting to invest her time or her means in the dreams of her children and grandchildren. She was constantly looking for ways to invest in the hobbies, the education, and the business interests of those closest to her. She believed in helping others achieve their dreams. Through investing in her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren, she positively touched the arts (classical piano, cinematic arts, landscape painting and portraiture), travel, sustainable and natural farming, food processing, and hospitality (restaurants). One cannot look far without seeing the impact of her touch on the lives of her family members and the community in which they live. “Mimi”, a title which Mrs. Hingorani was given after she became a grandmother, will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Hingorani was a member of the Nokesville United Methodist Church of Nokesville, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 5, 2018, at Nokesville United Methodist Church, Nokesville, Virginia. Interment will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Nokesville, Virginia. In lieu of sending flowers, her family would kindly ask if loved ones would like to support one of the causes Mrs. Hingorani pursued. Please consider assisting her efforts in animal compassion by making a donation to “Neuter Now” in her honor.
