The son of Milford and Faye (Hackett) Myers, Clayton was born in Haddam, Kansas, on July 8, 1913. The family moved to Iowa by train in 1919 to start farming in Douglas Township. He attended country school and completed two years at Sac City High School, when he began farming with his father. He was baptized and confirmed as a child in the Methodist faith and is a member of the United Methodist Church in Newell, Iowa.

On December 30, 1933, Clayton was united in marriage to Gusta Henrich in Pocahontas. To this union two children were born, Calvin and Jan. He continued farming north of Sac City, taking great pride in caring for the land, planting and harvesting his crops, and providing for his family. Clayton retired from farming in 1975, and in 1988 they moved into Sac City. During his earlier retirement years Clayton and Gusta took many bus trips. Gusta passed away in 2001.

Clayton loved to play cards, have coffee with his friends, and loved his independence, but more than anything else, he loved his family and cherished spending time with them. Survivors include his children: Calvin Myers and his wife Liane of Sac City and Jan Carlson of Spirit Lake; six grandchildren: Matt (Lana) Myers of Sac City, Doug (Sharon) Myers of Sac City, Darren (Tammy) Carlson of Omaha, Stacy Ardis of Coconut Creek, FL, Misty Carlson of Carversville, PA, and Kathy Myers of Omaha; and ten great-grandchildren: Clayton, Graham, and Huston Albachten; John Myers; Patrick and Paige Ardis; Alex and Hannah Carlson; and Nicole and Shelby Guntorad. Other survivors include his two sisters-in-law: Evelyn Henrich of Newell and Emma "Em" Saddoris, his special companion, also of Newell, and many extended family members and friends.

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; wife Gusta; brother Edwin Myers; sister Bernice Hameister and son-in-law Dorn Carlson.
