Eugene “Gene” W. DeBoy, 94, of Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 peacefully at his home.

He was born on October 16, 1926 in Lafayette, IN to the late Charles I. and Cecilia L. (Hatke) DeBoy. Gene was a lifelong resident of Lafayette and graduated in 1944 from Monitor High School. He was a member of the 1942 Basketball Team that won the Tippecanoe County Tourney where he made the winning basket. The next year the team went on to win the Lafayette sectional beating Lafayette Jeff High School. After graduation, Gene went on to be a farmer in the Tippecanoe area and worked as a postal clerk for 31 years, retiring in 1991.

On November 23, 1957, Gene married the love of his life, Patricia A. Schutter, in Fowler, IN. They were married 63 years and she survives.

Gene was a member of the United States Army from 1953-1955 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a long-time member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Lafayette Knights of Columbus. While working as a postal clerk, Gene also worked part-time for 18 years at the Journal and Courier. Gene was a member of several organizations including; Christian Family Movement at St Boniface, Charter member of the Adoration Chapel at St Elizabeth Hospital, board member for 15 years at the Buck Creek Community Center and participated in The Honor Flight. Gene enjoyed bowling at Market Square Lanes in the Young at Heart League and playing golf where he had two holes in one in his lifetime.

Surviving are his wife; two sons; two daughters; one sister; ten grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Private family Mass will be held at St. Boniface Church with interment following at St Boniface Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
