Justin Ray Nelson, 35, of Spencer, died on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at his home.

He was born in Henry County, on October 12, 1985, to Leon and Debbie Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bobby and Mildred Stone Rodgers and Hoyle Nelson.

He loved children and they loved him. His niece, Makayla, nephew, Grayson, and special friends and "adopted" nephew, Ayden, and niece, Sophia all held a special place in his heart as did his many cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Katie Poole (Matt); brother, Adam Nelson; grandmother, Joye Nelson; niece, Makayla Poole; and nephew, Grayson Poole.

Friends may stop by the funeral home Tuesday, February 2, 2021, from 4 until 7 p.m. to view and sign the register book without the family present. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at 2 p.m. in the Mayo Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mayo Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 254, Spencer, VA 24165, Henry County Parks and Recreation, P.O. Box 7, Collinsville, VA 24078, or the YMCA, in care of Courtney Hairston, 3 Starling Ave. Martinsville, VA 24112. Due to the governor's requirements for COVID-19, a face covering is required and social distancing is to be observed. Bassett Funeral Service in Bassett is serving the Nelson family.
