Phyllis graduated from Rains-Centenary High School in 1965 and had a scholarship to Columbia College in SC but chose to work in an office. She was a cheerleader from eighth grade to ninth and Captain of the cheerleading team for ninth through 12th grade. She was a Junior Marshall on the Newspaper and Annual Staff and a Beta Club member. She was also in the Junior-Senior play, a member of the Library Club and the Glee Club. She was the only senior selected by the faculty as Senior of the Month in December of 1964. She and her family were active members of Ariel Baptist Church and involved in the activities of the church.
Phyllis worked in the office of Pee Dee Electric Cooperative in the Marion office. Her husband, Ken went to work after she did as an engineer in the Darlington office of Pee Dee Electric Cooperative and they met when he came to the Marion office. They began dating and were married in October 1970. Due to the nepotism clause, she would need to quit her job. They made their home in Darlington, SC where their son, Kell was born. They bought a house in Florence, and their daughter, Keplyn was born.
In 1978, Ken was promoted to Vice President of Pee Dee Electric Cooperative in Marion and the family transferred to Marion County. They have lived in Greenwood Park for the years since 1978. Phyllis opened a Day Care business for keeping children. She was certified and began her career of 18 years taking care of children. The kids called her Mama Phyllis.
She was predeceased by her older brother, Gene Sarvis, her older sister Romata Sarvis Holman and her baby sister, Sandra Sarvis Foxworth, a nephew David Sarvis Holman, a niece Allyson Sarvis Levy and a great nephew Zachary Matthew Sarvis.
She leaves behind several dear classmates and very special friends, Peggy Thomas Sutcliffe, a dear friend since the first grade and Judy Elmore Mishowe by her side through all the good times and throughout her sickness all these years.
