Ann James
February 16, 1943 - January 29, 2021
---Doris Ann James passed on January 29, 2021 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO with her children by her side.
---Doris was born on February 16, 1943 at the family home in Bucklin, MO, the youngest of Warner and Tressa (Apel) Wright. She was a proud graduate of Bucklin High School (‘61) and Saint Mary’s School of Nursing as an RN (’65). Doris met her husband, David T James Jr. (Tonnie) at St. Francis Hospital in Marceline, MO where she was his nurse. They married at the Bucklin Christian Church on May 27, 1967. They shared over 52 years of marriage. He preceded her in death by 11 months, 24 days.
---Doris is survived by three children, Jennifer Spiess and her husband Lonnie, Columbia, MO; Jill Duncan and her husband Todd, New Cambria, MO; and David Thomas James, III (Trey) and his wife Melissa, Columbia, MO. Tonnie and Doris were blessed with 7 grandchildren Maddison, McHale and Michael Spiess, Columbia, MO; Brady and Megan Duncan, Macon, MO; Benett and Bailey Duncan and Bryce Duncan, New Cambria, MO; Seth and Courtney Glenn, Fulton, MO with their three children Wisdom, Gannon and Mahayla Glenn. Also surviving is one sister, Dena Mae Peterson of Bucklin, MO; and one brother, Roy Wright, New Cambria, MO. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
---Doris spent her career taking care of others. Doris was most known for her work as the nurse to Dr. Robert W. Smith, M.D. in Brookfield, Missouri. She spent 17 years taking care of his patients and to this day, she is still recognized for what a wonderful nurse she was to them. She spent later years working in local nursing homes which she found to be a very rewarding job. She had a special place in her heart for her residents and always made sure they were well taken care of. It was a rare occasion that she would go to the store and not have to stop and visit with the people and families she knew from her nursing career.
---Doris was a seamstress for herself and her girls, having made her own wedding gown and many clothes for her daughters over the years, some they still have. She was an excellent cook with some of her best dishes being brisket, German chocolate ‘cheat' cake, cranberry Jell-O salad and Russel Stover Fudge. It was a rare occasion that a hot breakfast wasn’t served every morning when her children were little. Doris was known for her quick wit and attention to detail.
---Doris was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Freddie Dale Wright. She has been welcomed into the Church Triumphant by those she has dearly missed and she will be missed by those of us left behind with memories that we will cherish for years to come.
---Visitation will be held at Hutton and McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, MO on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with funeral service at United Church of New Cambria at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2021 with burial following at the New Cambria Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The United Church of New Cambria, Bucklin Cemetery, or New Cambria Cemetery.
