Born in Winston-Salem, NC, on September 12, 1940, daughter of Lawrence Edison "Jack" Shaver (1911–1966) and Sallie Roberta Vernon Franklin (1911–2008); wife of Robert Malcourt Watson (1934–2023).
Graduated from the Curriculum for Dental Hygiene at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, married Dr. Robert M. "Bob" Watson, Jr., and moved to England with the United States Air Force. Upon their return, the family of five moved to Spartanburg where she continued her education, graduating magna cum laude from The University of South Carolina Upstate with a Bachelor's degree and Converse College with a Master's degree in Education.
Taught first grade/K5 in Spartanburg School District 6 at Anderson Mill Elementary School and Fairforest Elementary School where she was Teacher of the Year.
In addition to her love of education, she was an avid bridge player, watercolor artist, and lifelong cat lover.
A member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent, was co-chair of the 2009 Breaking Bread Cookbook Committee, and a member of The Women's Lunch Bunch Circle and the weekly watercolor class. She loved meeting for neighborhood walks and traveling with her girlfriends.
In addition to her husband of 60 years, she is survived by daughters, Wende Sweat (Riley); Leigh Watson, MD (Jack Bacot); son, Ashley Watson; grandchildren, Watson, Riley, and Cayce; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her sister, Dona Jean Shaver Mills (23 Mar 1931 – 9 Jun 2001); and brother, Lawrence Edison "Jack" Shaver, Jr. (10 Jul 1932 – 6 Nov 2014).
Visitation was 4:00 - 6:00 PM, Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, Spartanburg, SC.
A private family service held at The Church of the Advent, Spartanburg.
