Jane Elizabeth Cone Hardee was born June 1, 1772 in Pee Dee Station, Anson County, North Carolina, the daughter and third-born child of Revolutionary War hero Captain William Henry Cone and Keziah Eudel Barber Cone. She had eight siblings. Jane became the first wife of John Joseph Hardee, Jr. in 1789 probably in Bulloch County, Georgia, and they moved to Camden County, Georgia where they became the parents of two daughters, Jane Hardee Campbell and Sarah Cone Hardee. (John's second wife was Sarah Ellis Hardee, and they had nine children.)
Jane died on October 11, 1848 and is probably buried in a Camden County cemetery.
