Joyce E. Hickok Waggamon, age 86, passed away on January 24, 2021. Preceeded in death by parents Walter and Ruth Hickok, sister Joanne Budd, and daughter Donna Meyer.

Survived by husband, Delbert (Dutch) Waggamon, son David (Denise) Cox, daughters Debbie (Ed) Arnold, and Diana (John) Dick. Also survived by Dutch’s children who warmly welcomed Joyce into their family, Jeff (Becky) Waggamon, Jerry (Stephanie) Waggamon, Jon (Beth) Waggamon, and Jenny Hilbert, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joyce was born in Delaware County and spent most of her life there. She grew up on a dairy and grain farm in Ostrander and graduated from the Ostrander School in 1952, with a class of 14 students. Those remaining still get together occasionally. Her parents and sister enjoyed music and performed at reunions and school events. Joyce and her sister were active in high school musical groups, ensembles, and bands (she played the clarinet). They would sing duets at WMRN Radio in Marion in the 1940’s. She took piano lessons for ten years and played for Sunday School or church from the age of 13 to 82.

Joyce started sewing with 4-H projects making her own clothes. That came in handy later sewing for three daughters (and occasionally for David, Donna’s twin). At one time she sewed for others making costumes and other special orders. Later she switched to quilts and table runners and was a member of the Ostrander Quilt group. Joyce also enjoyed crocheting and knitting making doilies and throws.

While Joyce’s children were young, she won a contest with the prize being your weight in beef; she collected 140 pounds of meat.

She worked as a secretary for William Street United Methodist Church for 16 years retiring in 1998, where she made a lot of lasting friendships. Joyce was a former member of Millcreek Baptist Church and Radnor Baptist Church. Joyce was also active in the Ostrander Senior Citizen organization and acted as their secretary.

In 1988, Joyce’s daughter Donna, was involved in a traffic accident that left her in the hospital for 2 ½ months and at an in-patient rehab for 7 ½ months. Donna was confined to a wheelchair until she passed away from colon cancer in 2014. Joyce was a big help to Donna spending almost every day at the hospital and rehab center and then helping her battle colon cancer for two years.

While attending Otterbein College for 1 ½ years, she dated Dutch Waggamon. Neither can remember why they stopped dating. In 2006, they both attended a 50th Otterbein class reunion. Dutch’s wife of almost 50 years had passed away the year before. Later Joyce and Dutch started to date and were married in May 2007. Within the first year or two they were married, they won a contest by the Delaware Gazette with their unique story.

Joyce enjoyed spending time with family, especially days spent with her sister, daughters, or granddaughters. Before she married Dutch, she enjoyed traveling with girlfriends to faraway places.

In June 2019, Joyce and Dutch moved to independent living at Otterbein Senior Living near Lima, OH.

A service to honor her life will begin at 11:30 am, Thursday, January 28, 2021, at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware OH 43015. Calling hours from 10:30 to 11:30 am on Thursday. Masks and Social Distancing required. Burial to follow service at Fairview Cemetery – Ostrander.
