Donna J Meyer
18 May 1962 – 18 Mar 2014

Donna J. Cox Meyer, age 51 of Delaware passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Willow Brook Christian Village following a brave battle with colon cancer.

She was born in Columbus and was a 1980 graduate of Buckeye Valley High School.

On February 12, 1988 while she was driving to a new job for a fifth day of work, she was struck broad side by a semi, resulting in a severe head injury. She had to learn to talk again with the assistance of her Aunt and family. Walking was never a possibility for Donna; the accident changed her balance and propelled her backwards. Donna was given the "Saved by the Belt" plaque, but her life was forever changed. Life was never easy for Donna but her strong will and determination led her to remain independent.

Donna received an Honorary Lifetime Member Award from Grady for over 5000 hours of service over a 20 year period. She found a new purpose in volunteering and treasured the relationships and friends at Grady. She had the privilege of having her picture taken with Ted Kennedy Jr., when he spoke at the Grady Lecture series.

Donna had a collection of over 300 shot glasses, which she started to collect during a 3 ½ week backpack trip through Europe in 1984 with friends. She thought of them as an inexpensive way to get souvenirs.

She was a longtime Austin Manor resident. The Manor community of residents was so kind and helpful to her over the years. There she made many lasting friendships from watching sports events and movies. She also enjoyed playing Solitaire on her computer.

Forever resilient and positive, she will be remembered for her determination and warm smile.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include her mother and step-father Joyce (Hickok) and Delbert "Dutch" Waggamon of Delaware, her father William J. Cox of Ostrander, twin brother David Cox of Delaware, sisters Deborah (Ed) Arnold of Pickerington, Diana (John) Dick of Greencastle, IN, step-brothers Jeff (Bec), Jerry (Steph), Jon (Beth), step-sister Jenny Hilbert, nieces, special friends Cheryl, Diane, Debra, Pete, and Jill.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Walter and Ruth Hickok formerly of Ostrander and Aunt Joanne Budd formerly of Alexandria.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. on Friday and 10 – 11 a.m. Saturday at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Dr., Delaware where services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Alvin Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
