She was born in Sumay, Guam, on September 14, 1933 to parents Caridad Borja and Manuel Aquiningoc. Growing up on her native island of Guam, under the nickname of Ditang or Bernie, she was the youngest girl of four girls and two boys. Her youth was significantly challenged when she lost both parents before age 4 and when she survived captivity from Japanese forces on Guam for three years at age 8-11 during WWII's Pacific campaign. With God's grace, her family hardships and horrific events from the war could not impair her love for God and the power of prayer. Her faith instilled in her the strength, courage, perseverance, and conviction that God would answer her prayer to have the love of a large family, which He did. Cathy, as she is called in the states, is survived by her beloved husband John Samuel Wilson; their seven children, Joseph & Paula Schepisi, Sherry & Don Dixon, Carrie & Danny Conyers, Elizabeth Schepisi & partner Maged Adawy, Joanne Salas, Victor Schepisi and Jerry Schepisi & partner Karen Bolton; 15 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Her last remaining sibling, Manuel Aquiningoc, passed on January 31, 2021. Cathy was known by friends, colleagues, and family to be a hard worker, a natural leader, best friend and mentor.
She retired from federal service with numerous awards and acclamations, her last location at Ft. Stewart Army Hospital in Hinesville, GA. Throughout her life she demonstrated a joyful and optimistic spirit, resilience, a love for learning and unconditional love for her family. Her loving spirit survives in all who knew her.
