Zachariah Benjamin Salyer, Sr. was born January 24, 1730 in New Jersey to Charles Salyer (Sallier), Jr. (1697-1757) and Rebecca Bloomfield (1686-1770).

Zachariah married Katherine Howard before 1750 and had a son, Thomas Howard who was born in 1750.

Zachariah married Elizabeth Katherine Dunn (1735-1799) in 1751 in North Carolina.

Known children are: Isaiah Benjamin (Still) Salyer, Sr. (1752-1818)(Note, at one point in history, Isaiah dropped the name Salyer and called himself Isaiah "Still" and he is listed this way in some historical documents.), Martin Dunn Salyer (1756-1843), John Salyer (1760-1843), Benjamin Salyer, Sr. (1762-1825), Zachariah Benjamin Salyer, Jr. (1765-1845), Elizabeth Salyer (1768-1831), Sarah Sally Salyer (1770-1855), Rebecca Salyer Kilgore (1770-1860) and Temparence Tempy Salyer (1773-1860).

Zachariah and his children owned much land in Russell County, Virginia. More information on him can be obtained in the book, "The Salyer Family" by Elisabeth L. W. Salyer which is located in the Historical Section in the Russell County Library in Lebanon, Virginia. Bless her heart, Elisabeth did an awesome job on documenting her ancestors.
