Isaiah Benjamin Salyer, Sr. was born in 1752 in Rutherford County, N. C. to Zachariah Benjamin Salyer, Sr. (1730-1798) and Elizabeth Dunn (1735-1799). NOTE: "Isaiah Salyer of the second generation was a Tory, was forced to hide; also changed his name to Still - and when his name was demanded, he said I am Isaiah Still." Information on his use of the name Still can be found on Pages 40, 42 and 43 of The Salyer Family by Elisabeth L. W. Salyer.

He married Mary McCarty (1752-1821) NOTE-Sometimes the McCarty family did not put the "Mc" in front of their name, so records may indicate Mary Carty.) Isaiah married Mary in 1772 in Copper Creek, Russell County, Virginia.

Known children: Jeremiah Salyer (1775-1848), William M. (1778-1854), Nancy Salyer Jackson (1782-1850), David Salyer (1785-1845) NOTE-Twins were common in the Salyer Family and David was a twin to Brother Jonathan, Jonathan Salyer (1785-1845), Mary Salyer (1787-1867, Isaiah Salyer, Jr. (1795-1865), Margaret Peggy Salyer Carty (1797-1850), Matilda Salyer Jackson (1801-1881), John Salyer (1804-1881), Jemima Salyer Castle (1805- ).

More extensive information on Isaiah Salyer, Sr. may be obtained from the book, "The Salyer Family" written by Elisabeth L. W. Salyer. Elisabeth did an awesome job of documenting her ancestors. This book is located in the Historical Section in the Russell County Library, in Lebanon, Virginia. Note: In addition to her book, Elisabeth L. W. Salyer issued two "Additions and Corrections" to her book that I am in possession of on this date 10/10/2021. Elisabeth also noted in her book, The Salyer Family, on Page 32, "Many Salyer men had double names and were known by the middle name rather than the name usually on court records."
