Don served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict.
He was last employed with the Village of Redgranite. Prior to that, he owned and operated Capital Insurance, and had been an agent at Rural Mutual Insurance in Wautoma. He also farmed and had worked at Speed Queen, the Waukesha Quarry, and many other places.
Donald was a kind, loving, caring, hardworking man, who loved his family, and will be deeply missed by all. For many years, Donald was known for the beautiful garden that he put so much time and effort into, until he was no longer able to do so. He then decided to watch westerns and courtroom stories on TV.
Donald had been a regular customer of the Curve-In, B-R Diner and the Four Corners Restaurant, where he enjoyed visiting with other customers and the staff.
Survivors include his children, Donna (Ben) Chappa, and June (Patrick) Disterhaft, and daughter-in-law, Carol (Panke) Murray; his grandchildren, Melissa (Cal) Greening, Andrea Murray (Kurt Hoier), Justin Chappa (Morgan Ness), and Morgan's daughter, Boston, Jordon (Jenny Luther) Chappa; great-grandchildren, Emily, Levi, Alexa, Noah, and Carter Greening, and Bailey and Landon Chappa; and one brother, Arleigh (Ann) Murray.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Audrey, a son, Donnie, five brothers, William, George, Lester, Leslie, and an infant brother; and five sisters, Iona, Violet, Vivian, Leona, and Opal.
Don's family would like to thank Dr. T. Keith Duncan, and ThedaCare at Home Hospice for the care they gave him during his final days. A Special Thank You to Angie for making Don smile.
There will be a time of Visitation Saturday (January 30th) from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Ruminski Funeral Home in Redgranite. Graveside Services will be held in the Spring at the Belmont Cemetery in Portage County.
