The Centenary College campus in Jackson, La. was used as a hospital for Confederate soldiers from 1862 to 1863, and a skirmish was fought on the grounds on August 3, 1863, resulting in a number of casualties. The Confederate Cemetery on the grounds is the last resting place for over one hundred soldiers who died during the war, whose graves are unmarked.
