Services for Manuel Dean Young were held Monday, July 14, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Sanders Memorial Chapel with burial in Afton Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Services were under the direction of Elder George Johnson, pastor of Lubbock Primitive Baptist Church. Manuel passed away Saturday, July 12, 2003, in Covenant Hospital after a long illness.
Manuel was born and reared in Afton, Dickens County, Texas, was a graduate of Patton Springs High School. He married Tommie Kaye Rinn on Feb. 20, 1971. He retired this year after a long career as Senior Technical Specialist with CHR Solutions and Western Electric Company. During his career he traveled extensively, especially in the Far East, designing and installing telephone systems.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Christopher of the home, and Randy and wife, Joyce, of Lubbock; one grandson, Clayton Walker Young of Abilene; his mother and stepfather, Shirley and Carl Barton of Roaring Springs; mother-in-law, Sybil H. Prickett; three sisters, Chloe Nell Anderson of Lubbock, Barbara Winkler of Los Lumas, NM and Linda Walton of Snyder and one brother, H.L. "Bill" Young of Burton.
Memorials may be made in his memory to Joe Arrington Cancer Center, 4101 22nd Place, Lubbock, TX 79410.
