Sidney Mose Chartney, 84, died January 16, 2021 with his family at home in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Sid was born in Jones, Oklahoma on May 23, 1936 to parents, Samuel and Geneva Chartney.  Sid grew up in the Arcadia, Jones, Luther area throughout his life.

He graduated from Arcadia High School.  Sid attended First Southern Baptist Church of Arcadia, Oklahoma serving as an active member and as a deacon for 64 years.  Sid helped build the church from the ground up physically and spiritually as a young man, as a couple with his wife Kay, and as a family.

Sid and Kay moved to Edmond in 1955 where they resided the rest of each of their lives.

Sid worked for T.G.&Y. and the Oklahoma County, where he retired.

His interests were going to the lake to fish, ski, swim, and spend time with family and friends.  His other passion was sporting events with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He loved and was loved by coaches, parents, and athletes from Edmond Memorial High School girl’s softball and basketball teams.

Mr. Chartney is survived by his son Mark Chartney and wife Sherie; daughters Gaylynn Spear and husband Mark; and Janet Chartney.

Other survivors include grandchildren Kevin and Kyle Chartney, their wives Christina and Jenny; Chartney Madison and husband Nathan; Bailee Spear, and Nik Frost.  Sidney’s surviving great grandchildren Bryce, Cael, Grace, Jude, Katheryn, Sydnie, Brecken, and Kason, Paden and Paxtyn Carroll were true joys in his later years.

Sid reunites in Heaven with the love of his life, wife Kay Chartney.  His reunion also includes his parents Samuel and Geneva Chartney; siblings Betty, Bob, Max, Don, Richard, and Kathy.  His surviving siblings are Garry, Larry, Marilyn Merkle, and Robin Peters; along with many nephews and nieces and their grands that he adored.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The American Breast Cancer Society. Visitation will be held from 12-8 p.m., Monday, February 1st and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2nd at Matthews Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Life Church, 2001 NW 178th St. Edmond, OK with interment to follow at Arcadia IOOF Cemetery. The family asks that you wear maroon and grey clothing to the service.
