Upon his return he attended the University of Oklahoma where he obtained his Ph.D. After completion of his Ph.D., he was pleased to accept a position at Oklahoma State University in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. He raised three children in Stillwater who enjoyed attending numerous school and university activities alongside their father. He dedicated his entire career to research and education holding various positions throughout his tenure, ultimately retiring from the University in 1990.
Following his retirement from the University, Calvin returned to his Hereford cattle ranch in Kingston, Ok. He often quipped that he was busier in retirement than while “working”. Calvin led an especially active life in retirement; he owned and operated the Dark Corner General Store for 14 years, he enjoyed attending all of the activities participated in by his two youngest daughters and he was immensely involved in the community. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, served on the Kingston School Board, including a term as president, active in the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce, City Council, Masonic Lodge, and CASA.
Calvin spent his final days “fixin’ fence” and “poking cows” with his son-in-law, Ivan Bray.
