John Richard Klinger 1942—2021
FREEPORT, IL. - John Richard Klinger, 79, of Belvidere and formerly from Freeport, passed away Jan. 19, 2021 at home. John was born January 14, 1942, to Harm A. Klinger III and Cristina E. Samuelson. John's parents were divorced 1946. Christina remarried to Oliver E. Piefer in 1953.
John had married Carolyn Swank August of 1962, and would later divorce. In 1991 he married Karan (Heitzler)(Olson).
Survivors include 1 sister, Grace (Terry Plowman); 4 stepsisters: Betty, Rose, Darlene and Lois; children: son Steve (Lynn Woodbridge), daughter Stacy (Keith Dollahite), and daughter Julie (Richard Burgess); stepchildren: Jeff (Tina) Olson, Dennis Olson, Connie (Mike) Wysocki, Linda (David) Bishop, and Darrell Olson.
John served in the Air Force from 1960 to 1964. He work 27 years at Micro Switch, Div. of Honeywell, retiring in 1992. John was active in sports especial in track, setting the shot put record in his senior year. John help coach and coached several little league and St Mary's basketball teams. John was a Master Mason in Excelsior Lodge #97 and served as Worshipful Master. John also a DeMolay also serving on the DeMolay advisory board.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Christina and Harm Klinger, stepfather Oliver Piefer, brother Harm, and brother-in-law Terry Plowman.
A private service will be held on Monday January 25, 2021 at 11 AM, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freeport, followed by Inurnment at 12 noon, at Oakland Mausoleum in Freeport.
