Martha Sigmon McConnell Westmoreland, 66, of Mooresville, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at her home. Born March 15, 1938, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Abner Linnie and Lillie Jane Sigmon McConnell. Mrs. Westmoreland was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and The Classy Chicks RedHatters Club. Mrs. Westmoreland is survived by her husband, Donald Graham Westmoreland, whom she married Feb. 12, 1956. In addition to her husband, survivor include children, Donna Westmoreland Brawley, Sandy Westmoreland Sullivan, Mandy Westmoreland Edwards and Donald Graham Westmoreland, Jr., all of Mooresville; brother, Joel P. McConnell, of Mooresville; sisters, Vera M. Henderson and Anne M. Kerr, both of Mooresville; and grandchildren, Kendal, Tray and French Brawley, Braelyn Sullivan, Karley Edwards, Tara, Lilly and Gracen Westmoreland, and Ryan Harkey. Brothers, Billy and John McConnell, and sisters, Mabel M. Robertson and Rachel McConnell, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Johnny C. Cozart officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m., today, Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625 and/or the American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Rd., Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28210.
