James W Cummings "Jim", 72 of Windsor, CO, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on January 14th, 2021 at MacKenzie Place in Fort Collins, CO after a 3-year battle with Vascular Dementia.

Jim was born June 26th, 1948 to Robert and Pauline Cummings in Marshalltown, IA. He grew up alongside his two brothers in Marshalltown in a small house on the North side of town where he joined the BSA. By their Oath, he pledged to do his best to do his duty to God and his country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep himself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. Jim worked hard and earned his rank as an Eagle Scout and followed the principles of the Scout Law throughout his life by being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

Jim graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1966 where he lettered in Cross Country and shortly after joined the US Marine Corps in December, 1967. Based in Camp Pendleton, CA, he earned the rank of Sergeant, decorated with a National Defense Service Medal and the Meritorious Mast Award. Jim served as an Air Control Electronics Operator, Manual System and was honorably discharged after 3 years of service. He then continued his education at William Penn University and earned 2 degrees in Economics and Business. While starting his own family, he worked for Marshalltown Instruments and Dunham-Bush. In 1992, Jim followed his love for the great outdoors and moved his family from the farm in Iowa to the mountains of Windsor, CO, where he later retired from Walmart Distribution in 2016.

Jim's great loves were his family, riding his Harley, hunting, fishing, hiking, Tang Soo Do and helping anyone in need. He was an active member of the American Legion, where he assisted with Memorial Day services and other events throughout his life.

Jim is survived by his two brothers Terry (Dianne) of Marshalltown, IA and Dave of Marion, IA, sons Sean of Fort Collins, CO and Justin (Kristina) of Loveland, CO and his granddaughter Avery of Fort Collins, CO.

A celebration of life service to be held in Colorado will be announced at a later date.
