James B. Adams was born Jul 29, 1861, in Montgomery County, Kentucky, to parents George Q. Adams (ca 1836-Bef 1900) and Mary W. McIntire (1840-Bef 1920), both born in Kentucky. James was the oldest child in a family of nine children. His brothers and sisters were: John Davis Adams (1863-1942), Dr. William Henry Adams (1866-?), David Adams (ca 1868-?), Viola Adams (ca 1871-?), A. Pearl Adams (ca 1873-?), Mary Melvina Adams (1876-?), George W. Adams (1879-?), and Andrew Adams (1881-?), all born in Kentucky.
James worked on his family farm in Montgomery County until he was older and went to live with his Uncle Andrew McIntire in Nicholas County where he earned his degree in dentistry.
In 1891, James married Elizabeth Durbin, born in Kentucky (1869-1927). Elizabeth was a daughter of Napoleon Durbin (1815-?) and Cynthia Hill (1832-?), both born in Kentucky.
James and Elizabeth settled in Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky, where he opened his dentist office and they had four sons: Cleon B. Adams (1891-1965), James D. Adams (1893-1938), Vernon Adams (1896-1977), and Wilson Adams (1899-1921), all born in Harrison County.
James died at the age of 47 on Oct 28, 1908. Elizabeth died 19 years later in 1927. Both are buried in Battle Grove Cemetery along with other family members.
