Cornelia Elizabeth (Young) Johnson
August 5, 1920 ~ January 8, 2021 (age 100)

Cornelia Elizabeth Johnson, “Sue”, was born in Coatesville, PA on August 5, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Goldie Larkins Young.

Mrs. Johnson was one of the longest living people in her family. She witnessed many things throughout her lifetime. She received her early education from the Historical James Adams Elementary School. Remarkably, she was in the first class to graduate from S. Horace Scott High School.

For many years, Mrs. Johnson worked as a nurse's assistant at Devon Manor in Paoli until she retired.

She loved to talk and had many stories to tell. She enjoyed traveling. She traveled to the Holy land, Germany, and parts of Europe. She traveled with Mrs. Etta J. Stroud’s ministries.

Mrs. Johnson enjoyed gardening, taking care of flowers and vegetable plants. Her children remember her being a good cook and a good baker. The family and neighbors looked forward to receiving her baked goods at Christmas time.

Mrs. Johnson was one of the founding members of the former Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She served at Mt. Olivet for 75 years in many areas such as a Sunday School teacher/superintendent, church clerk, usher, head of women ministry and missionary. When giving her testimony, she would always say, “If I had ten thousand tongues, I couldn't thank God enough.” and “I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord.” She was sometimes called the “hat lady”, because she always wore a hat and was a sharp dresser. She loved scarves and jewelry, too.

Mrs. Johnson was currently member of Holy Dove Christian Fellowship. At age 100, Mrs. Johnson was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 8, 2021, at the Newport Meadows Nursing Home, in Christiana, PA.

She leaves to cherish her memories twor sons, Gilbert R. Johnson (Gloria Reed) of Lancaster, Dennis R. Johnson of Coatesville; daughter, Valerie Johnson of Coatesville; brothers, Edward Young of Coatesville, John R. Young of Omaha, Nebraska; sister, Evelma Reynolds of Delaware; 4 grandchildren: Tyreal Johnson, Dennis L. Johnson, Derrick R. Johnson, Aeriel S. Johnson; great-grandchildren: Londyn Johnson, Donathan Ashton, Shonn Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by brothers: Milton Young, Georgie Young, Sam Young; sisters, Evelyn Wright, Lillian Keitt, Arlene Young and daughter-in-law, Lisa M. Johnson.

A walk-thru public viewing will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Holy Dove Christian Fellowship, 947 West Main Street, Coatesville, PA.
