Mary L. Mitchell, 85, of Kansas City, died peacefully early Monday morning, January 27, 2014, at her daughter's home in Lathrop, MO. Mary was born on Oct. 24, 1928 in Blue Springs, Missouri. She attended Northeast High School. She married Eugene S. Mitchell, Sr. on June 15, 1947. They lived and remained in the Kansas City Metro area the greater portion of their lives. Mary was primarily a homemaker, although she had worked at St. Regis Paper Company for 16 years. She also sold ladies Bee Line Fashions for 5 years as a fun position. She loved to meet new people with her wonderful smile and friendly manner. She was active in many bowling leagues and was a true baseball and football fan. She was a lovely lady who had a positive attitude, kind words, and plentiful smiles and humor. She expressed her love through kindness and generosity. Mary was a very spiritual woman who was very passionate about making a difference in the lives of her 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 33 great grandchildren. Mary loved the Kansas City area and seldom wanted to travel out of the area except to make short visits with other relatives and family friends. She and her husband had lived for several years in Arizona in the early 1950s, yet they decided to return to the Kansas City area to never leave the metro area again. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Cole and Frances McNulty, her husband, Eugene Mitchell, Sr., two sisters, Ella Briggs and Betty Gilbert. Mary is survived by her 5 children, Stan Mitchell in Blue Springs MO, Steve Mitchell in Kansas City, MO, Stacey Mitchell and wife, Jodi of Independence MO, Sharon Denney of Drexel, MO, and Sandi Johnson and husband Marcus of Lathrop, MO. She is also survived by 4 sisters and 1 brother, and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all her loved ones and dear friends.
