Frederick (Fred) Rynkowski, age 84, of Newark, Delaware passed away January 11, 2021 at the Wilmington VA Medical Center.

Fred was born February 6, 1936 in Wilmington, Delaware, the youngest of five children. He is survived by his four daughters, Diane Ruland (Robert), Kathy Murphy (Michael), Cindy Piazza, Susan Maynard (Bruce) and his brothers Charles Rynkowski Jr. and Robert Rynkowski. He was the proud grandfather to nine grandchildren, Kelly, Jeffrey, Matthew (Diane), Sean, Madelyn (Kathy) Gina, Luke (Cindy) Holly, Jenna (Susan). He was predeceased by his wife Louise (Malvezzi) Rynkowski, his brother Henry Rynkowski and sister Sylvia Candelora.

Fred is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served two back to back tours before retiring in 1972. He was a proud member of the Army’s 1st Battalion, 8th Air Cavalry division’s Jumping Mustangs and participated in the first night air assault in US Army history. Fred’s military career started at a very young age when he tells us he asked his older brother to vouch for him and joined the Army before he was eighteen years of age. In his twenty years in the military, he accomplished 108 parachute jumps as well as serving time as a Marine. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the military never left him. It was very evident to anyone who had the honor of talking to him about his time served. After his military retirement, Fred went on to work (and retire) from DuPont.

After two full careers, one in the military and one for DuPont, Fred finally got to live a well-deserved retirement life where he became an avid golfer. In 1999 Fred joined a new golf club, Chisel Creek where he was literally the second person to sign on. Having never really played before, he treated it like everything else and gave it his all! He had 3 sets of different golf clubs, 17 pair of golf shoes along with countless golf shirts and windbreakers. Not only was he the best dressed on the golf course, he managed an impressive THREE Holes In One during his membership with them.

Fred was definitely one of a kind who left us with many memories and stories. He will forever live in our hearts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road Wilmington, DE 19808 on Monday January 25th 2021 at 10 A.M. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of f flowers, the family suggests donations to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 78516, Topeka, KS 66675.
