She was born February 21, 1938 in Mexico to the late Cherokee Indian Chief Jessie Emanuel Burrell and Ann Yielding Burrell. Jean was recognized as being a Cherokee Indian Princess, due to her being the first-born daughter of her father. In her adult years she lived in St. Louis, Missouri and retired from St. Louis Christian Hospital after 25 years of service.
Jean always liked to keep busy, so she later decided to take a position at Sikeston Walmart, where she worked for the next 7 years. In her spare time she enjoyed being with her family and taking care of her precious dog, Ginger. She was of Baptist belief.
Jean was married to Jimmie Gore, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Whybark of East Prairie; three sons, Michael Gore and Dennis Gore, both of East Prairie and Ricky Gore of Matthews; six grandchildren, Mandy Wilson, Dennis Ray Gore, Timothy Gore, Jonathan Gore, Matthew Gore and James Gore; many great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Kendra Whybark and Christopher Gore; one brother, Sonny Burrell; and two sisters, Joyce Henderson and Dixie Baker.
A memorial service will be held at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. The date and time of service will be announced as soon as information becomes available.
