Mary and her parents and siblings emigrated to America on June 18, 1887, arriving at the Port of New York, and from there, they went to Milwaukee where Mary's father had a tailor shop. The family then moved to Yuma, Yuma County, Colorado, from about 1892 to 1895 and homesteaded with other Bukovina emigrants. About 1896 to 1897, the Fastner family moved back to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, then soon moved to a homestead near Milan corners in Johnson Township, Marathon County, Wisconsin.
Mary was married to Conrad Sebastian Mohelnitzky on August 22, 1899 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. They had three daughters, Irene, Evelyn, Helen and Merie. About 1906, the family moved to Wausau, Marathon County, Wisconsin, until about 1911. From 1911 to 1914, Mary and Conrad operated a small general store in Germantown, Richland County, Wisconsin (near Cazenovia). After Conrad died in 1914, Mary ran the store alone until 1917 when she was married to Theodore M. Bauer on June 21, 1917. Together they ran the general store until Mary's death on July 14, 1945.
Mary's funeral took place at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, Germantown, Richland County, Wisconsin. Conrad Mohelnitzky is buried next to their daughter Irene Mohelnitzky. Mary is buried with her second husband, Theodore - all at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Cemetery.
