On June 18, 1887, Louis and his parents, grandparents and siblings emigrated from Bukovina to America, arriving at the port of New York.
From 1892 to 1895, the Fastner family lived in Yuma, Yuma County, Colorado, where they lived with other Bukovina emigrants. Moving back to Wisconsin, they homesteaded in Johnson Township in Marathon County.
On October 22, 1904, Louis signed a Declaration of Intention to become a citizen of the United States, renouncing forever all Allegiance and Fidelity to the Emperor of Austria. The document was signed in the circuit court of Marathon County, Wisconsin.
Sometime after 1930 and before 1950, Louis lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Then he moved back to Marathon County. He died on February 15, 1960 at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield, Wood County, Wisconsin.
