Died at his residence in Clackamas county Oregon June 9, 1874 of dropsy and heart disease. Deacon Jackson Mayfield was a son of James and Nancy Mayfield. He was born in Maury county Tennessee Feb. 9, 1811. Was married to Dicey Roberts April 14, 1833 and in 1834 moved to Illinois where he lived until 1836. When being entered of his home by speculators, he moved to Washington county Arkansas near Fayetteville, where he lived until 1846. Whe he moved to Barry County Missouri. In 1853 or 1855 he united with the Little Flock Church of Regular Predestinarian Baptist, by experience back to the eighteenth year of his are. He was baptised by Elder Marin Whitely. He was soon after ordained Deacon of that Church, in which capacity he servedd until compelled to leave his home. He moved to Greene County Missouri where he lived without church privileges, there being no church of his faith and order in that section. Some time later he moved to Barry county to Cassville, and from this place he and his family in 1867 emigrated to Oregon. After filing for a homestead and establishing a home in 1870 he and six others were constituted into the church of Regular Baptist known as Cedar Creek. He was chosen as their deacon, which office he filled up to the time of his death.
