WM. MAYFIELD, OLD PIONEER, PASSES AWAY
William Mayfield died at his home at Central Point, yesterday of infirmities due to old age. Deceased was born in Washington county, Arkansas, January 24, 1839, aged 82 years, 8 months, 7 days, at the time of his death. With a party of immigrants of a train of 75 teams and wagons, Mayfield left Missouri in 1867 crossing the plains and mountains to Oregon. He had been a resident of Oregon 54 years and of Central Point 14 years. Mr. Mayfield was married to Elizabeth Wisdom in Missouri in 1860 and to this union there were born 11 children, seven of whom are living, four sons and three daughters: Wm. Mayfield, Central Point; M. S. Mayfield, Prineville, Ore.; Finis and Joesph Mayfield, Heigie, Ore.; Mrs. Marjorie Ledford, Wamic, Ore.; Mrs. Laura Ledford, Hood River, Ore.
October 27, 1881, deceased was married a second time to Mary L. Slover in Clackamas county, Ore. Mr. Mayfield was a Civil War veteran, enlisting as a musician in Co. K. 16th regiment Missouri infantry, and was a member of the Central Point of I.O.O.F.
The funeral services will be held at the Christian church Wednesday morning at 10:30. Interment in Central Point cemetery. Funeral arrangements in charge of the Peri Funeral Home.
