John “Johnny” Rufus Hobbs, 89, Lafayette, GA passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021.

Johnny was born September 16, 1931 in Forrest City, Arkansas and grew up in Hughes, Arkansas. He lived most of his life in the South but also lived and frequented Chicago and Lemont, Illinois where he raised his children.

He was a U.S. veteran where he served during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army. Johnny was a mechanic by trade and retired from J & K Towing and was a Jack of all trades. Johnny was a member of the VFW, enjoyed dancing, fishing, working on cars, listening to gospel & country music and cherished spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes ”Marie” Hobbs; parents, Homer & Alma (Rumsey)Hobbs; daughter, Connie (Hobbs) Tiedt; brothers, Homer & Jack Hobbs; sisters, Mavis (Hobbs) Rose; Mini (Hobbs) Nelson, James” Janie” (Hobbs) Gregory and Mary (Hobbs) Lambert.

Survivors include his sons, David R. Hobbs, MS, Michael L. Hobbs, MS and Kenneth B. Hobbs, TN; daughters, Pamela K (Hobbs) Wirkus, IL, Linda Youso, WA, Michelle L. Hobbs (Josh) Jones, TN and Karen A. (Hobbs) Neiva, TN granddaughters whom Johnny and Marie raised as their daughters, many friends, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Special mention of Pat Ramey, Johnny’s longtime love and companion.

Funeral services will be held 4p.m. Sunday, January 10th in the chapel. Interment will be 11a.m. Monday in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00pm – 4:00pm in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
