Amelia Cain’s family was closely related to the Pearson family in marriage and migration. Many Quaker families including the Cains and Pearsons moved to South Carolina starting in the late 1750’s and 1760’s. Three Cain sisters married three Pearson brothers-Amelia Cain married Mahlon Pearson, her sister Rebecca married Jacob, and sister Barbara married John. When over one hundred Quaker families moved from South Carolina to Ohio in the early 1800’s, Amelia and Mahlon, Rebecca and Jacob, Barbara and John, and Amelia’s brother, John Cain all moved near Warren County, Ohio.
Enid Hawthorne’s book states “Amelia, wife of Mahlon Pearson, died in Ohio and is probably buried in the old graveyard on the Martindale section # 114.“ I could not find her tombstone or death date. On her mother’s FAG page Amelia is listed as having died in 1839 but she was not listed on the 1830 census as part of Mahlon’s family.

Amelia’s surviving children with Mahlon are listed in his will “ dated August 15, 1838, and (is) on record at Covington (IN), “ which is from Hawthorne’s book. Children mentioned in Mahlon’s will include: Enoch, John C., Margaret, Delilah, Barbara, Margery, Elvira and Lydia (Robert died in 1816 and Johnathan died 1824.)

The Hawthorne and Summer books were good guideposts but primary information is really needed, especially a copy of Mahlon’s will.
