C.S.A. Private James T. Mitchell Co B - 31st Reg. - TEXAS Cavalry (Hawpe's Reg.)
James was the son of Joseph Mitchell born in 1785 in Virginia. James and Joseph were in Fannin County, Texas for the 1850 census. James married Sarah Ann Keeney in Texas about 1852. James, his father Joseph, his wife Sarah and his four daughters Sarah Ellen, Mary C., Rebecca Jane and Sibbie A.S. were in Johnson County for the 04 July 1860 census. His daughter Nancy was born in 1861 and his son James J. Mitchell was born on 11 Jan 1862 in Texas. (Sarah was in Upshur County for the 1850 census with her parents and siblings.) James T. Mitchell enlisted in the Civil War (C.S.A.) on 02 April 1862 from Bosque County, Texas for the duration of the war. Pvt. James T. Mitchell, Co B, 31st Regiment, Texas Cavalry (Mounted Volunteers, Hawpe's Reg.) age 36. He started service on 11 April 1862 from Dallas, Texas. In March of 1865 the 31st returned to Texas where it disbanded in May of 1865. The 31st was included in the surrender in June 1865. I don't know if James made it home.
James' wife, Sarah Ann Keeney Mitchell, married on 20 March 1867 at McLennan County, Texas to John Allbright.
