Dugald was the 4th of five sons born to Donald and Isabella Smith. In 1924 he immigrated to Detroit, Michigan. On Sept. 26th, 1929 he married Mabel Lorene McColl daughter of Fred and Melissa McColl in Tilbury, Kent Co., Ontario. That same year Mabel also moved to Detroit. Mabel was born May 19, 1908 and died Sept. 2,1967 in Detroit. Dugald was listed as a carpenter on the marriage certificate and on City Directories for Dearborn from 1930 - 1960 he is listed as a Construction Superintendent.
