A memorial mass for Mrs. Marie Herron Truitt, 81, a retired Loop brokerage firm employe and former singer, will be at 9 a.m. Friday in Old St. Mary Catholic Church, 23 E. Van Buren St. Mrs. Truitt died Monday in her North Side home. Mrs. Truitt retired last fall after 25 years as a secretary for The Illinois Company, Inc., 30 N. La Salle St., stock brokers. Mrs. Truitt, then of Milwaukee, was selected the best woman singer of The Chicago Tribune's first Chicagoland Music Festival, held before 150,00 people in Soldier Field in 1930. A graduate of Chicago Musical College, she was the leading soprano for the Balaban & Katz theaters in their "Public Theaters" circuit for four years. She was featured with the Chicago Opera Company in the opening of the Uptown Theater. There are no immediate survivors.
