Gerry, lovingly known to her grandkids as “Maw Maw”, went home to be with The Lord on 12/21/20 at the age of 83.

She was at her home in Farmers Branch,Texas. Gerry was born in Swink, Oklahoma.

Growing up she was known as a tomboy and loved telling the story of how she broke her arm falling out of a tree playing Tarzan.

She was born to Ruth (Strain) and Winfred Goad.

Gerry was very close to her grandparents Elmer and Minnie Pearl Strain as well. Her love for her parents and her grandparents was evident in how incredible of a wife, mother, sister, grandparent, and great grandparent she was.

As a teenager, she moved to Dallas and was the very first graduating class of South Oak Cliff High school.

She married Charles Herndon in 1955. Soon after they had 3 children Rex, Mike, and Kellie Herndon. Gerry was always a loving and caring Mother. Charles Herndon went to be with the lord in 2000. Sadly, shortly there-after, she lost her first grandson, Brandon Charles Herndon and her daughter, Kellie Renea Herndon, which broke Gerry’s Heart.

Gerry was the lunchroom manager for Dewitt Perry Middle School in the C.F.B.I.S.D. for over 30 years and well known for serving the best food in the district. She was also well known throughout her family as an amazing cook. She always made sure that the entire family got together.

She is survived by her sons: Rex and Mike Herndon, brother: Eddie Bowers and sister: Vickie Bowers. Also by her grandchildren: Dustin, Brittany, Derek, and Mathew, Great-Grandchildren: Charlie, Emmy, Ryann, Noah, and Wyatt. Lovingly known as, “Maw Maw”, there were so many great memories being at Maw Maw and Paw Paws house. Maw Maw loved her kids and grandkids with all of her heart. She is and always will be loved and adored by all of us and anyone who had the great honor to have known her.

To have a Mother and Maw Maw like her was a precious gift. Her love and devotion will be remembered for all time. Heaven gained an angel. We love you, Maw Maw.

Gerry was also preceded in death by Brother in Laws: David and Bobby Herndon, Sisters in law: Betty Harris and Nancy McKenzie

She is survived by: Ray, Don, Johnny and Billie Joe Herndon.
