Luyre Bertrand, 81, of Hildreth, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 surrounded by loved ones.
Luyre (Fruhling) Bertrand was born on September 3, 1939 in Kearney County on the Fruhling family farm to Garhart and Mattie (Jurgens) Fruhling. Luyre attended the Hildreth Public Schools and graduated in 1957. Luyre was united in marriage to Leon Bertrand on June 15, 1958. They were blessed with three children Mark, Marcia, and Mike. Luyre’s life was spent as a loving farm wife, mother, and grandmother. They lived on their family farm before retiring to Hildreth in 1989.

Luyre loved people; her loving friendly nature made her a favorite aunt and friend to many. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, hosting family dress up parties, other family gatherings, and eating out. She found her greatest joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially the babies. Luyre will be remembered for her gentle spirit and kind and sensitive heart.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Leon; children, Mark and wife Donna Bertrand, Marcia Dorn, and Mike and wife Myrna Bertrand; sister, Phyllis and husband Al Kuhlanek; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dolly and Orlan Grams, Glenn and Jae Bertrand, Diddley Bertrand, and Cindy and Ron Schneider; grandchildren, Cheri and her husband Corey Twohig, Chris and wife McKenzie Bertrand, Nicole and husband Jon Dunker, Andy and wife Hannah Dorn, Emilee and husband Jacob Hoffschneider, Amanda Rupe and friend Shaun, Jacob Bertrand, Ethan and wife Jessie Bertrand, and Brendan Bertrand. She was also blessed with 15 very special great-grandchildren as well as a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her parents-in-law, Bernard Bertrand and Milrae and Richard House; her brother, Gerald Fruhling; brother-in-law, Jim Bertrand; and sister-in-law, Cinda Bertrand.

Gravesite Details

Private family interment will be held at the Upland Cemetery.
