Elbert Heaton Porter passed on to be with his eternal companion, Frances, on June 8, 1999.
Elbert was born in Orderville, UT, on June 1, 1917, to Francis Alvin and Martha Heaton Porter. He loved Orderville and Southern Utah, and already showed exceptional artist's talents at a young age. He graduated from the BYU with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and received a Masters of Fine Arts Degree from the U. of U. He was a talented artist and sculptor. Elbert and Frances were married in the Mesa, AZ Temple on December 18, 1941, while living in San Diego, California. He was a professor at the U. of U. for 12 years. Then his creative spirit led him to create a display of full size dinosaur models that today are displayed by the State Park system at Vernal, Utah.
He also did sculpture work for the LDS Church including works of the Angel Moroni and Joseph Smith for the the New York World's Fair in 1964. Dad loved being a father and he was a loving and caring father. He and mom had five children. He has been a faithful member of the LDS Church and faithfully held many positions. He particularly enjoyed working in the scouting program. He and Frances filled a mission in Nauvoo, Illinois and gained many friends there.
He is survived by his sister, Twila (Leonard) Rockwell; his children: Sherril (Lois) Porter; Dwight (Trena) Porter; Suzanne (Marcus) Cooley; Bryant (Deanne) Porter; Janice (Elven) Nisson; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his sweet wife, Frances; his parents; nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 12, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the Mountain View Stake Center at 2901 West 9000 South, where friends may call from 12:30 to 1:45. There will also be a viewing on Friday night at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Midvale, 6-8 p.m. Interment will be at Memorial Estates at 6500 South Redwood Road.
