Hazel M. Werdin, 89, of Janesville, died on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato. Private graveside services are planned at the Smith's Mill Cemetery. Arnold McRaith Funeral Home of Janesville is handling arrangements.
Hazel May was born May 5, 1918 in smiths Mill, Waseca County, MN to John and Irma Fellows Abraham. She attended Waseca County country school. Hazel was united in marriage to Edward Werdin on May 31 1942 at her parent's home in smith's Mill. They moved to Waseca where she worked for EF Johnson Company during the war. In 1948 they moved back to Janesville, and Hazel worked for many years for the Fairmont Canning Company, and later Birds Eye Foods in Waseca. Hazel also worked for the Janesville Nursing Home when it first opened. After her husband's death in 1972, she started a Board and Lodging facility in her home for the elderly, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville.
She is survived by one daughter, Faith Joy Werdin of Howell, Michigan; two grandsons, Nathan Drummond of Howell, MI and Eric Drummond of Kalamazoo, MI; by her sister in law, Helen Young of Montgomery, MN; by one step grandson, Dr. Ronald [Donna] Werdin of Roseville, MN; by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, a step son, a sister in law, and a niece and nephew. Mankato Free Press, 30 Aug 2007.
