Business Executive, Union Civil War Soldier. Born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, he was educated at the Tremont Seminary under the instruction of abolishionist, Reverend Samuel Aaron. He learned the trade of watch making for a couple of years and then became a title examiner until the Civil War began. He volunteered to serve in the Union Army in July of 1861 and enlisted with the 51st Pennsylvania Infantry under Colonel John F. Hartranft. He was mustered into Company I as a Private and was later assigned to duty in the regiment commissary. Iredell participated in Burnside's Expedition into North Carolina and during the Virginia Campaign he was assigned to the Quartermaster's Department of the Third Brigade as the Chief Clerk. After the war, he settled in Cincinnati, Ohio and became connected with the Cincinnati Home Fire Insurance Company. After a few years, he began employment with the Mutual Life Insurance Company and became the firm's secretary in 1869. A company merger changed the name to the Union Central Life Insurance Company. Iredell was later appointed as Superintendent of Agencies for the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He became general manager in 1887. He was also a member of the Masonic Order and held various titles and positions within the organization including that of Grand High Priest of the Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in 1888, 1889, and 1890. He died in Avondale near Cincinnati in 1921 when he was 79 years old.
