Victor grew up on the family farm on Bark Point. He owned the general store in Herbster and sold it to Bill Hendrickson in 1929. He married his first wife, Elsie M. Knutson, on 3 July 1920, in Duluth, Minnesota. Elsie was the daughter of George and Carrie Knutson from Webb Lake, Wisconsin. She was a school teacher in Herbster.
Victor and Elsie had two sons, Vyron and Leo. Both sons served in the United States Army during World War II. Leo was a sergeant in the 5th Infantry and died on 30 July 1944 in Normandy and is buried there. The Korppas-Johnson Legion Post in Port Wing is named in his honor. Elsie passed away during the birth of their third child who also died.
After Elsie died, Victor married Violet Christianson. Victor and Violet had a son, Victor Allen Korppas in 1936. On 24 January 1937, Victor Korppas, Sr. died as a result of a hunting accident. Their son, Victor, was adopted by Violet's second husband, William Larson, and his last name was changed to Larson.
