Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette for Kathryn Butcher Austin, age 63, who died on Thursday, September 23, 2015 at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.

Father Keith Landry will celebrate the Memorial Mass and will conduct the services. Visitation will be from 8:00 am until the time of the service. A Rosary will be said on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 12:30 pm.

Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Elias Juge, son-in-law, The Honorable Christopher H. Juge, and grandchildren Kathryn, Christopher II, and Charles. She is also survived by her five siblings and their spouses, Michael Butcher (Dottie), Patricia Butcher, Ron Butcher (Kathryn), Tony Butcher (Rosemary), and Dina Gannon (Billy), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew L. Butcher and Cecile H. Butcher, and her husband Roger Dale Austin.

A Lafayette native, Kathy grew up in Bendel Gardens and attended Fatima High School where she developed lifelong friendships that she greatly cherished. She was the life of every party, making friends wherever she went and providing vivacious conversation. Kathy loved to travel and was ready for any adventure. She spent her career in the banking and credit industry, and retired to New Orleans. She was a loving mother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend. Known for her generous spirit, Kathy loved children and relished caring for the babies in the family. She also compassionately cared for sick relatives in their time of need. Her recent enjoyment was inventing new games and enjoying the outdoors with her grandchildren. She doted on her namesake, Kathryn, and marveled in the pursuits of her grandsons Christopher and Charles. Kathy will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In honor of Kathy’s strong support for the education and advancement of young women, donations may be provided in her name to Tulane University’s Newcomb College Institute, 7025 Freret Street, New Orleans, LA
