Mr. Paul Joseph Van Bloem, 53, of Sykesville, Maryland, died on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at his residence. Born March 11, 1961, in New York, New York, Paul was the son of Kathleen (Dunne) Van Bloem and the late Peter Van Bloem. He was a lifelong bibliophile and voracious reader. Paul graduated from St. Boniface Martyr grade school in Sea Cliff, Regis High School in Manhattan and Williams College, where he majored in economics and history, graduating with honors. Paul was an early adopter of personal computers and an ardent supporter of computers in offices. He founded the computer consultancy, Little Green Software, which he ran for three decades before taking employment with Lockheed Martin where he served as an integral member of numerous computer initiatives. He was a bicycle-riding enthusiast, a board game player, and competitive computer gamer. His brownies and cookies were his distinctive calling card. We will miss his sweet nature, generous heart, and thoughtful kindness. In addition to his mother, Paul is survived by his siblings, Patricia Schumacher and husband Thomas, Peter Van Bloem Jr. and wife Maureen, Edward Van Bloem and wife Laura, and John Van Bloem and wife Christine. Paul was an adored and indulgent uncle to Peter Schumacher, Emily Van Bloem, Grace Van Bloem, Timothy Van Bloem, Matthew Van Bloem, Benjamin Van Bloem and Anna Van Bloem. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7pm, on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you remember Paul by baking cookies and sharing with the ones you love. Online condolences may be shared at www.keeneybasford.com
