Dr. Roger Barrett Collins, 80 years old, died peacefully on Nov. 7, 2020, at his home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, following a long illness. Roger was born Nov. 2, 1940, at Letterman General Hospital at the Presidio of San Francisco, CA. Roger was the son of Glenn Jesse Collins and Dorothy Nelson Collins. His father was physician in the Army, so the family moved many times throughout Roger's childhood, from California to Oregon, Washington, DC, Germany, Texas and back to Germany again. Roger was among the first American Army dependents to arrive in Germany following WWII and started grade school there, and, on his parents second tour, finished high school, graduating from Heidelberg High School in 1958. During his childhood, Roger was a member of the Cub Scouts, the Boy Scouts, and Demolay. Roger attended the Universities of Oklahoma and Arkansas, graduating in 1963 and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Roger then attended medical school at the University of Tennessee at Memphis, graduating in 1967. Roger was a member of Phi Chi Medical Fraternity and Theta Nu Epsilon Society. Dr. Collins undertook his internship and radiology residency at the same hospital he was born in, Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, CA, where he was fortunate to be taught by some of the leading University of California San Francisco Radiology professors of that era. Following residency, Dr. Collins served at William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, TX. After his military service, Dr. Collins relocated his family to Oklahoma City, where he joined Radiology Associates and served as a diagnostic radiologist at Integris Baptist Hospital and Deaconess Hospital until he retired after 32 years. Roger enjoyed Oklahoma Sooners football, scuba diving, collecting movies, and traveling the world with loved ones and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Peggy Ronnette Collins; and daughter, Chistina Lynn Collins. Roger is survived by his wife, Teresa Tokarz Collins; his daughter, Casie Ronnette Boling, and his grandchildren, Jacob Thomas Coniglione and Jordan Barrett Coniglione, all of Oklahoma City, OK.
His ashes will be interred alongside Peggy and Christina in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to a charity of your choice.
There will be a grave site service held on Dec. 18, 2020, at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery, 13313 N. Kelley Ave., OKC, OK 73131.
