Terrance William Gavin, 65, of Monmouth, Illinois, a Warren County cattle breeder and former president of the Illinois Shorthorn Association, died, Friday, March 17, 1961, of a heart attack. He was stricken in a Monmouth barber shop and died a few minutes later. Terrance was born on September 15, 1895, in Warren County, Illinois, a son of Katherine (Kinney) and William Gavin.

He married Mary Frances Burns on Sept. 21, 1922, in Monmouth. She was killed in 1938 when she was struck by an auto as she crossed a highway in front of her home.

For many years Terrance was a noted breeder of Shorthorn cattle. A former state association president he was a director of the organization at the time of his death. He had served as a member of Lennox Consolidated School District before the school became part of the Warren School district.

Mr. Gavin was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the Warren County Farm Bureau.

Surviving are: four daughters, Helen Irey, Lucille LeFort and Jean and Mary Gavin; and a son, William; six grandchildren; and four sisters: Mrs. Roy Thompson, Mrs. E. L. Gillen, and Margaret and Olea Gavin, all of Monmouth and four brothers: John of Peoria, Francis of Little York, and George and Roy, both of Monmouth.
