Abraham and his son, Joel, left Wythe Co, VA on November 17, 1855, to look at and buy land in Elliott County. They purchased 600 acres at a rate of $2 per acre.

Abraham, Rachel, and all of their children, except for Ephraim, moved to Kentucky by "Jolt Wagon" via the Cumberland Gap.

Their house is located behind the Church at Stark. The Elliott Cemetery is located on a hill, less than a half-mile behind the house. Abraham is buried in the cemetery and has a fieldstone with the initials "AK" on it for his marker.
